Implementation of ILU-Code for Intermodal loading units started

Today the UIRR has signalized implementation of the ILU-Code.

The European norm EN13044 defines the new standard for marking and coding of intermodal loading units (ILU) in Europe. Harmonized with the ISO-Code for (maritime) containers it allows a unified identification of the owner and identity of each European intermodal loading unit: swap bodies and semi-trailers in particular. UIRR was selected to administer the code, whereas the BIC remains responsible for the ISO-Code of containers. Productivity Increase in Intermodal Transport

European intermodal operators and railway undertakings are working together in the INTERUNIT. The general managers meet annualy in the INTERUNIT General Committee. The 2010 assembly was associated with the 40th anniversary of the UIRR and convened in Brussels on October 22, 2010.
Mr. Sondermann of KombiConsult was asked to present the AGORA findings on increase of capacity and efficiency of intermodal transport terminals.

AGORA Final Conference on "efficient interfaces for modal shift"

Intermodal terminals are decisive for the growth of intermodal transport since they facilitate the physical interfacing between different transport modes and often moderate the interests of intermodal stakeholders. The final conference convened 40 high level experts involved in intermodal transport of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxemburg, Romania, Switzerland, Slovakia and The Netherlands.

The exchange of experiences performed in the framework of the Marco Polo Common Learning Project AGORA is important to improve business and competitiveness of intermodal rail-road-waterway transport towards road. Terminal Interest Group AGORA continues its work

Terminals continue common learning and coordinated improvement of services

In recent years, European intermodal terminal operators have been working together successfully in several projects (amongst others DIOMIS and AGORA) to share experiences, how to improve the capacity, performance, efficiency, quality and profitability of intermodal terminals (“good practices”).
After the expiry of the EU-funding Project AGORA this good collaboration shall be continued in the form of a permanent working group. The name of the working group is “Terminal Interest Group” (synonym: AGORA group).

The objectives of this cooperation include:

  • Exchange of „good practices“.
  • Standardization of processes (“Quality Label”).

AGORA Intermodal database launched

Frankfurt am Main, 01 September 2010. The interactive intermodal terminal database, presenting information on terminals of all AGORA -Partners in a first step, was launched today.

Information on intermodal terminals is required by intermodal operators, customers of intermodal transport services and the “interested community” of intermodal supporters. Several sources of information exist:

  • The intermodal terminal operators themselves
  • Ports or logistics centres in which the terminals are located
  • Companies to whom the terminals belong
  • Regions or countries in which they are located
  • Intermodal operators or other institutions
